Weatherization Assistance Program

What is the Weatherization Assistance Program?

The Weatherization Assistance Program is a federally sponsored program that enables low-income families to permanently reduce their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient. During the last 30 years, the U.S. Department of Energy ’s (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program has provided weatherization services to more than 5.6 million low-income families.

By lowering the energy bills of low-income families, weatherization reduces dependency on direct pay programs and frees up funds for spending on more pressing family issues. On average, weatherization reduces heating bills by 32% and overall energy bills by $358 per year at current prices.

The main purpose of the Weatherization Program is to cut high energy bills in your home. This program's goal is to make your home more energy efficient, thereby saving you money on your utility bills. The program places a priority on helping the elderly, persons with disabilities, families with children, high energy users and households with energy burdens.

When a household qualifies by income, CVCAA staff will perform an inspection of the home. The inspection will include:

Information from the inspection is entered into a state approved energy audit which determines the most cost saving actions that may be taken on the home.

If the roof is leaking or if there is missing sheet-rock, excessive holes in walls, floors or ceiling, or other forms of structural damage, the home will not be considered for weatherization until repairs are made that would allow our weatherization technicians to safely perform an energy assessment.

WEATHERIZATION DOES NOT INCLUDE PLUMBING, PAINTING, OR REPLACEMENT OF FLOORS. FUNDS AVAILABLE FOR ROOF REPAIRS ARE EXTREMELY LIMITED.

THIS IS NOT A BEAUTIFICATION PROGRAM.

All work is completed by a weatherization contractor, but inspected by CVCAA weatherization staff to insure that quality work is done on your home.

You do not need to own your residence to be eligible for the Weatherization Assistance Program.  We weatherize rental and mobile homes too!

We DO NOT keep the deed to your home after we weatherize it.

CVCAA performs home weatherization in the following counties: Coke, Coleman, Concho, Crockett, Irion, Kimble, McCullough, Menard, Reagan, Runnels, Schleicher, Sterling, Sutton, and Tom Green.

This is a free service if you qualify.
